Foreword

This directory includes the Ophthalmologists, Opticians, and Optometrists who are participating providers of MESVision, and contains the best available information at the time of printing. This directory should not be considered a total representation of participating providers. Additions and changes to the directory are made continuously. You should ask your Ophthalmologist, Optician, or Optometrist, or call the Administrator, MESVision, if you wish to confirm the participation of a particular provider. Providers are arranged by distance from search location, segregated by profession, and notes which services are provided by the office:

  1. Provides vision examination services only
  2. Dispenses contact lenses only
  3. Dispenses eyewear
  4. Discount Vision Program provider
  5. Retail eyewear benefits will be converted to wholesale-equivalent prices at these locations

This provider directory is only for the use of obtaining routine eye care (examination with refraction, and eyewear). Any other services obtained from the providers contained herein are beyond the purpose of this directory.

You may select services of any licensed eye care professional. However, some plans will not reimburse for services rendered by non-participating providers. Please refer to your benefit borchure for the actual description of your benefits, including exclusions, limitations, deductibles, or co-payments.

Vision Plan Information

Full-Service Vision Plans provide a routine vision examination and prescribed eyewear. If you have a Full-Service Vision Plan, you may receive your examination and/or eyewear benefits from any participating provider so noted in the this directory.

Eyewear-Only Plans provide eyewear benefits only (spectacle lenses, frames, or contact lenses). If you have and Eyewear-Only Plan, you may receive eyewear benefits from any participating provider so noted in this directory. However, your examination benefit must be rendered by an examiner from, or authorized by, your Participating Medical Group who may or may not be listed in this directory.

Examination-Only Vision Plans provide a routine vision examination benefit only. If you have an Examination-Only Vision Plan, you may receive your examination benefit from any participating provider so noted in this directory.

The Discount Vision Program allows a twenty (20%) percent discount on certain services and materials. The twenty (20%) percent discount is provided only upon request at date of service. If your vision plan has this added benefit, the discount applies to non-covered items including lens options and frame overages. Participating providers so noted in this directory, however, are not required to offer discounts on certain items including, but not limited to, disposable or replacement contact lenses, frame repairs, promotional offers, or medical and/or surgical treatment of the eyes.

Eye Care Professionals

An Ophthalmologist (M.D.) is a physician who specializes in the comprehensive care of the eyes and visual system. An Ophthalmologist is medically trained and qualified to diagnose and treat all eye and visual system problems. An Ophthalmologist can deliver total eye care as well as diagnose general diseases of the body. An Ophthalmologist has completed four years of college pre-medical training, four years or more of medical school, one year of internship, and three years or more of specialized medical training and experience in eye care.

An Optician is a technician who designs, verifies, and dispenses lenses, frames, and other fabricated optical devices upon the prescription of an Ophthalmologist or an Optometrist.

An Optometrist (O.D.) is a health care service provider who is involved with visual problems. An Optometrist is specifically educated and trained to examine the eyes and determine the presence of vision problems and other ocular abnormalities. An Optometrist may also be certified to diagnose a limited number of certain pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of these conditions, and to perform a limited number of some related medical procedures. An Optometrist determines visual acuity and prescribes lenses and other optical aids and exercises. An Optometrist has completed two to four years of college pre-optometric training and four years of specialized training at an accredited college of optometry.

Many Ophthalmologists, all Opticians, and most Optometrists dispense eyewear.
